With the nation in the throes of a teen mental health crisis, our region is stepping up its response with an expanded array of treatment options.

Lynn’s safe place is a woodsy trail in a Chester County park near her home. It was there that she had a crucial discussion with her daughter’s therapist. “It’s my hard conversation spot,” she says. Elizabeth has been a challenging child. Now a sophomore in high school, she was a student at Malvern’s Fusion Academy, which specializes in supportive individualized learning, offering unique daily scheduling. Be Mindful: The mental health effects of Social Media use

SANTA BARBARA COUNTY, Calif. – The U.S Surgeon General warned social media can have a “profound risk” on the mental health and well-being of children and adolescents. A U.C. Santa Barbara professor said despite the potential risks, we should also look at the benefits of social media.

The advisory released Tuesday said children and adolescents are commonly exposed to extreme, inappropriate, and harmful content, and those who spend more than three hours a day on social media face double the risk of poor mental health including experiencing symptoms of depression and anxiety.

Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy cites in his advisory that despite 95% of teenagers’ use of social media, there is still not enough evidence to determine if social media use is sufficiently safe for them.

The advisory cites studies that show social media may perpetuate body dissatisfaction, poor sleep quality, and addiction to certain social media platforms.

Man robbed at gunpoint at health centre | News Extra

Gun-toting criminals pounced outside the compound of the La Romaine Health Centre and robbed a man of his jewelry on Tuesday morning.

 

After exiting the health centre, the victim was walking to the car park when he was robbed at gunpoint by two thieves.

 

Officers of the La Romaine Police Post, San Fernando CID, Southern Division Task Force, and other police units responded to the incident but no suspects have as yet been detained in connection with the case.

 

A statement from the South-West Regional Health Authority, which manages the La Romaine Health Centre read, “The SWRHA advises that we are aware of an incident, which occurred at the entrance of the La Romaine Health Centre at 7.30 a.m. on May 23rd, 2023. We also advise that the incident has since engaged the attention of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service.”
